What is a DMARC record?

A DMARC record is a TXT record published at _dmarc.yourdomain.com starting with v=DMARC1. It tells receiving servers what to do with mail that fails SPF and DKIM alignment: reject it, quarantine it to spam, or deliver it anyway while only reporting.

What is the difference between p=none, p=quarantine, and p=reject?

p=none is monitoring only: failing mail is delivered normally and the domain stays spoofable. p=quarantine sends failing mail to spam. p=reject tells receivers to refuse it outright, which is the strongest protection against spoofing.

What do the rua and ruf tags do?

rua names an address that receives daily aggregate XML reports on who is sending as the domain and how much fails authentication. ruf requests per-message forensic reports on individual failures, which many large receivers no longer send for privacy reasons.
